Dear Scott,
I'm a left handed intermediate level disc golfer. Do you have any tips on what discs I should use as it pertains to the stability of them?

Maria,
There is no right or wrong when it comes to proper selection. What works for you may not work for somebody else. I can however try to give you a rough idea of what I think a player should start with. If you are throwing drives of less than 250 ft., the Xpress may be the farthest line disc for you. If you are throwing further than that, probably a Cyclone, XL, or XS will fly the furthest. A great midrange disc is either the MRV or the Comet. Both the APX and the Magnet are great putters. The Xtra as well as the X2 are great over stable drivers. This is just a very, very rough idea of what to throw. The best thing to do is to experiment with different discs and find the ones that work best for you. If it works best for you it is the best disc.
Dear Scott,
Distance seems to be buzz lately, especially with the dramatic results at El Mirage. I'm excited by this because that's my passion in disc golf. My current technique involves throwing very low, line drives that do take advantage of the wind. My question to you is how far would Chris voigt's record throw have gone if it was in zero wind?

Erin,
It's hard to say, but Chris’ shot would definitely not have gone as far without wind. Nor for that matter would any of the world record throws.
Part of throwing distance is properly adjusting to and accounting for the wind. Often players have brought up the point that too much wind would skew the record results. I disagree with this because playing the wind is arguably the most difficult part of throwing far.
When Chris broke the record, he was throwing in a direction that was slightly different than I was. I thought he had it all wrong but apparently he had a right and I was wrong. So not only did the wind aid his record, but his ability to read the wind was what really made the difference.
