Ask Stokely Driving Footwork and Scott's Summer Clinics

Dear Scott,

How many approaching steps do you take on the tee before you release your disc?

Ryan Simmons
Boulder, CO

Ryan,

When throwing off a perfect tee pad, I will use six steps. Unfortunately most tee pads are far from perfect.

It is important to learn everything, from a two through a many-step run-up. If your course has small or poor teepads, you're actually at an advantage. This is because you do not get spoiled by an optimal tee pad, but rather have to be used to making adjustments.

Dear Scott,

It was really great to have you here last fall with hot tips and brand new XS plastic. Will you be back with a similar tour this summer?

Don Ticknor
Chippewa Valley Disc Golf Org/Tower Ridge
Osseo, WI

Don,

I have not actually contacted the course pros yet, but I am planning to make four stops in Wisconsin this year. I don't want to give the names of the courses until I have finalized them.

I really enjoyed playing the course at Tower Ridge, and believe it is one of the best wooded in courses I've ever seen. I don't think I'll make it there again this year primarily because I want to go to new places, as well as some that I have not been to for several years.

As far as making the tournament, I'm actually playing very few tournaments this year. Rather, I am using these clinics to get to go to all the places in the country I have never been. I just returned from a great trip in Montana, Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Idaho, and Utah. Later this fall I'm going to get to go to New England for the first time. I hope to see you at some of the events in Northern Wisconsin or Minnesota.
