There hasn't been time to see the others. I actually had copies of shows two and three and planned to look at them today, but left them in the studio in a rush to get out of there yesterday and spend a night in my own bed for a change.

We're a mere six weeks into production and already the shows/ events/ cities/ courses are beginning to blur together. Where were we last weekend, just a couple of days ago? Hmm, let me check the schedule… oh yeah, Columbia Missouri for the Mid America Open.

The disc gods spanked us good in Missouri. See, through our first five weeks and two pre-production events, there was no rain wherever disctv went. It became a badge of honor. In fact, the streak lasted long enough that John began to gloat over disctv's power to hold back the rain. disc golf photo: christopher brophy The forecast for the Master's Cup was rain all weekend, but we never saw a drop. John became more animated in thumbing his nose at the disc gods, and every time he did so, Leo and I would take a step away, fearing an immediate lightning strike or a string of bogies at minimum. We're both longtime disc golfers and know the disc gods can be quick to anger at such insolence. John just kept dancing around his disctv golden calf, and we waited for the flood.

It arrived in Columbia.

They had already gotten six inches of rain before we arrived, and the courses were soaked. No problem, that's why they make waterproof socks. There was some rain on Saturday, but Sunday was The Day The Sky Opened Up. The first round was on the brand new Indian Hills course, which became so muddy that the players quickly took on the look of Woodstock Mud People. A thunderstorm rolled in at the start of the second round, and the resulting delay caused the final nine to be cancelled. Of course, it poured throughout the round, and we shot what we could. Editing the show has become an adventure to say the least.

John remains defiant… wet, but defiant. If you're hanging out with him anytime soon, I wouldn't stand too close.

Brian
