"I'd love to help disc golf get bigger and better, but I'm just one person." - Ken Chumas, Georgia
It's easy to feel overwhelmed at the prospect of helping to expand a game
that is already reaching worldwide status. What can one person do? Plenty.
When opportunites arise for you to make a difference, we hope you'll step up
and take advantage of them. To assist you in this goal, DiscLife.com will keep
you up to date on some of the ways that you and your local club can help.
Wham-O Pulls Out Of Junior Frisbee® Disc Championships

Due to budget cuts, Wham-O has cancelled the 2000 Junior Frisbee® Disc
Championships. We see this annual event as an important disc sports
outreach program, and invite you to email Wham-O
and encourage them to continue to support programs like this in the future.
From 1968 to 1999, Wham-O sponsored the World Junior Frisbee® Disc
Championships, which provided young athletes the chance to test their skills
against thousands of other FRISBEE disc players throughout the world.
Each year, schools and parks would host local Frisbee disc competitions
throughout the United States. Top performers from local contests then had
the opportunity to win their way onto the US team by sending an audition
tape to Wham-O. International competitors were chosen at events hosted by
international distributors of the Frisbee brand of flying discs. Invited
players competed for the World Championship in overall play and in six
different flying disc events (discathon, golf, distance, SCF accuracy and
freestyle)
The Championships were expanded in 1998 to include age divisions for players
under 16 (Juniors) and players age 16-20 (Collegiate).
Recycling Your Old Disc Golf World News Magazines
Fred Hallaman of Birmingham, AL wrote in to suggest we all donate our
uneeded DGWN magazines to a local doctor's or dentist's office.
"It would be a very subtle promotion for disc golf, but what could
it hurt," said Fred. "There would be no cost to anybody.
Instead of throwing the magazine away we could just donate them to
whoever might get the most usuage of it. I think a doctor's office, physical
therapist, sports medicine clinic and such would be the ideal places for
obvious reasons. We could make it into national campaign of sort."
Great idea Fred! Thanks for the suggestion.
